Specimen Type

Specimen is drawn by capillary collection into a heparinized microtainer without gel separator and labled with the patient’s ID, date and time.

1 ml of sample is preferred. 200 ul is the minimum volume. Microtainer should be filled to capacity.

Specimen must be sent to the Lab immediately for testing, preferably within 10 minutes of collection.

This test is mainly for infants and small children, not for adults.

Testing performed on the ABL90 Flex or iSTAT Analyzer.

- Large clots

- Unacceptable anticoagulant (EDTA samples)

- >30 mins at room temperature

- > 1 hour on ice

- Samples with gel separator
