Nasal or Nasopharyngeal swab

Specimen Collection - DRY SWAB

    1. Collection:
      1. NASAL – use a sterile flocked (preferred), rayon or foam swab
      2. NASOPHARYNGEAL – use a sterile flocked (preferred) or foam swab; rayon unacceptable
      3. collected swab put back in its original packaging

Specimen Stability

    1. Stability:
      1. testing should be performed within 15 minutes of collection
      2. if testing within 15 minutes is not possible, the swab can be placed in a clean, unused tube and capped tightly at room temperature for up to 1 hour
      3. if testing is not possible within 1 hour of collection, recollection is needed

UNACCEPTABLE

VTM unacceptable – ID NOW Covid-19 2.0 is intended for testing swab directly without elution in VTM as dilution will result in false negative.

NOTE: Puritan® Mini Rayon Tip, Puritan® PurFlock Ultra® Flocked Swabs-Mini Tip, Puritan® PurFlock Ultra® Flocked Swabs-Standard Tip, Copan™Rayon Standard Tip Swab, and Jiangsu Changfeng Medical Industry (JCF) Polyurethane Foam swabs are not suitable for use in this assay.
