Specimen Type

Acceptable specimens include abscess aspirates, bronchoscopy specimens, sinus aspirate, deep surgical wounds, and urine – suprapubic.

Unacceptable specimens include vaginal swabs, sputum, random urine, stool, cervical swabs.

Fluid specimens may be injected through the rubber stopper of the transport media or injected into a sterile clot tube (No SST).

Specimens collected on a swab must be completely submerged below the surface of the transport media.
